The Hard Disk, hard drive, or desktop drive is the main storage media on a computer. The mechanical nature of harddisk's main components makes it the slowest component on a computer, and also impose physically-related wears that lead to crashing. The mechanism also requires certain operating conditions.

Three of major hard disk interfaces are PATA (IDE, Parallel ATA), SATA (Serial ATA), and SCSI. Most personal computer users would either have PATA or SATA interfaces in their machines.
