What it means
Hard disk firmware refers to the software that controls the physical disk drive hardware. This software is found within the drive itself. If the firmware becomes corrupted, the computer is unable to correctly interact with the hard disk.
The Signs & Symptoms
The hard disk spins when powered up, but the disk cannot be correctly recognized by the computer. Alternatively, the disk may be recognized, but the system may then hang during the boot process.
What do I do?
Firmware problems require special equipment to resolve, as this may involve reprogramming/reloading of the firmware, and manipulation of the disk drive.
Probable / Possible Outcome
For drives with firmware errors and no other accompanying errors, data is usually recoverable. However, one needs to send it to a qualified Data Recovery Lab for the data to be retreived.
Testimonial from our customer
Dear Patrick,
I would like to express our staff gratitude and compliments to you and your team.
We had 2 harddisks failures, our internal team spent countless hours to retrieve the important data, but failed. We turned to your company for help. Your technical staff was very professional, confident and competent, he provided very useful information to our users prior to their decision to proceed with the recovery.
We were so very pleasantly surprised when the data could be retrieved by your technial team in good condition from the non-readable harddisks. Our staff were so grateful for the efforts, and everyone here knew it took tremendous efforts, persistence and sound expertise to accomplish what we had thought impossible! Now we know who to turn to for help.
Excellent job!
A very BIG THANK YOU!
